Affiliate Disclosure

Road Trip Locals is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn a commission. Learn more below.

It’s our goal to share free, high-quality road trip itineraries, packing lists, and travel stories because we genuinely love helping you plan meaningful adventures. But running a website does come with costs and that’s where affiliate links are helpful.

How Affiliate Links Work

Some of the links on this site are affiliate links, which means if you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission. This comes at no cost to you—whether you use an affiliate link or not, the price stays exactly the same. The company simply passes a tiny portion of the sale to us as a thank-you for the referral. It’s a built-in way to support the site without spending anything more.

A few important notes:

  • Companies cannot pay to be featured on Road Trip Locals. Sometimes brands send us free items to try, but we only recommend things we’ve tested ourselves or genuinely think will improve your road trips. If it’s not something we’d pack, buy, or rely on, we don’t share it.

  • Affiliate relationships never influence our opinions. We don’t hunt for random affiliate programs and then try to sell you on them. Instead, we recommend the items we already use and love, and then, if it makes sense, we seek out affiliate partnerships with those brands. If we don’t genuinely like something or wouldn’t use it ourselves, it doesn’t make the list.

  • We also share non-affiliate links. The goal is always to be helpful first. Commission or not, if we love something, we’re going to tell you about it.

  • Affiliate programs do not share your personal information with us. We don’t see names, addresses, payment details, or anything connected to your identity. The only information we receive is anonymous data, such as whether a link was clicked or a purchase was made—never who clicked or who purchased.

  • As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. Once again, this comes at no cost to you, and all the same rules above still apply—Amazon just asks that we specifically let you know the Amazon links on our site are affiliate links. If you choose to use them, please know they’re one of the best ways to support Road Trip Locals, and we’re truly grateful.

  • We take your trust seriously. Road Trip Locals is built on our real experiences: months spent living and working on the road and practical advice from the highways, backroads, and scenic byways we’ve actually driven. Still, it’s your responsibility to decide whether a product or service is right for you. Always do your own research, and please know we aren’t responsible for any purchases you make through affiliate links.
