    1. Rental Cars

Major rental car companies like Hertz, Budget, and Avis usually offer Black Friday sales with up to 20% off bookings. Deals often include discounts on one-way rentals and extended rentals, making them perfect for road trippers.

Here are 2025 Black Friday deals for rental cars to look out for:

    • Hertz: Black Friday is Hertz’s biggest sale of the year. Save up to 30% on your road trip when renting a car with Hertz at participating locations in the USA, Canada, and Europe.

    • Budget: Save up to 25% on all vehicles with you select “Pay Now”.

    • Avis: Save up to 35% when booking on Avis.com during their Black Friday sale.

🚗 RTL Tip: One-way rentals are the hack for point-to-point road trips. Black Friday deals can make one-way rentals more affordable than usual.

    2. Marriott Hotels

Marriott's Black Friday deals usually include a percentage off stays at select hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals worldwide.

They’ve also offered promotions like discounted weekend packages or extra perks like free breakfast or resort credits when booking directly through their website.

Last year, members saved up to 25% through Marriott’s Cyber Sale when booking by Travel Tuesday (the day after Cyber Monday). Similar sales are available this year. You can save 20% on desktop or 25% through the MarriottBonvoy app.

    3. Adventure Gear

Black Friday isn’t just about electronics. For roadtrippers, it’s the gear sales that are often the most exciting!

Even though REI “opts outside” for Black Friday (meaning don’t expect stores to be open the day after Thanksgiving), Cyber Week brings regular discounts of up to 30% and clearance items up to 50% off. Plus, Amazon and other retailers slash prices on outdoor gear, too.

Here are some of the best markdowns we’ve found for Black Fridays and Cyber Mondays in the past:

Stand-Up Paddle Boards: Fun for all skill levels. ROC Inflatable boards often go on sale for Black Friday on Amazon.

Retrospec Snowshoes: We use these snowshoes to explore Yellowstone in the winter. They come with trekking poles and multi-terrain attachments for winter trails. We love them!

Winter Gear: If you’re headed on a winter road trip, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are good times to consider investing in traction cleats for icy paths, insulated boots (I wear Oboz Women’s / Jon wears Oboz Men’s), snow pants (ones I wear / bib pants Jon wears), snow goggles, and a polar buff. You can find sales on Amazon and REI.

Heads up: The week before Thanksgiving & Black Friday is often REI’s biggest sale of the year. It’s their Co-Op Holiday Sale, with up to 30% off thousands of items, plus members can save 20% on a full-priced item and an extra 20% on one outlet item.

It’s a good time to stock up on road trip gear, like the Yeti Roadie Cooler, Garmin inReach Messenger or inReach Mini, hiking boots (I wear La Sportiva and Jon swears by his GORE-TEX boots), and travel clothing. We took advantage of Cyber Week sales to get our Yeti Roadie Cooler 15 in sky blue, and the color is absolutely gorgeous! The cooler fits perfectly behind the front seats of our car.

Hiking Poles: Hiking poles are especially helpful for long climbs and steep downhills. I use them on steep elevation trails to take pressure off my knees and feel more stable. Here are the exact hiking poles I use (on Amazon), and here’s a similar option from REI.

Packing Cubes: Not traditional adventure gear, but soooo useful for trips where you want to stay organized and pack more in less. I’m a fan of these packing cubes from LeanTravel (I love how sturdy they are), and we also use the Amazon Essentials cubes (solid budget pick). I’m looking at these Peak Design packing cubes the next time I need a restock, because they come with a built-in dirty clothes section, and I’ve literally wanted this multiple times on recent trips. Genius!

    4. National Park Lodging

Xanterra usually runs its Thankful for Travel sale from Thanksgiving through early December, offering discounts for various properties and experiences.

    Past sales have included:

    • Save 30% on select Yellowstone lodges

    • Save 30% on rooms at Cedar Creek Lodge (Glacier National Park)

    • Save 30% on rooms inside Death Valley National Park

    • Save 30% on rooms inside Grand Canyon National Park

    • Save 30% on train tickets with Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel

    • Save 30% on rooms inside Zion National Park

    • Reduced deposits on Windstar Cruises

    • Save $200 on a private hiking vacation through Italy’s Cinque Terre Coast

    • Save $400 on Xanterra’s Grand Australia and New Zealand Tour

    • Save at Broadmoor Wilderness Experience Properties

    • Save up to 50% on gifts from Yellowstone National Park

This sale is a great opportunity to book discounted stays at national park lodges. For full details and terms, visit Xanterra's website.

    Yellowstone Black Friday Deals

As you probably know, we’re big Yellowstone fans, so we’re always looking for the best park deals!

During past Thankful for Travel sales (run through Xanterra), you could save up to 30% at Canyon Lodge (stays July 6–Sept 3, 2026), Lake Hotel (May 15–Sept 3, 2026), Mammoth Hotel (Nov 24, 2025–May 7, 2026), Old Faithful Snow Lodge (Dec 16, 2025–May 7, 2026), and Old Faithful Inn (May 1–17, 2026). Just be sure to book during the sale, between Nov 24 and Dec 8, 2025.

You can check the dates for current-year sales here. It’s one of the best times of the year to save on in-park lodging. You can also save up to 50% on Yellowstone-inspired gifts during this sale.

    5. Travel Clothing

If you’re a roadtripper, you know your clothes need to do it all: be comfy for long drives, hold up on hikes and sightseeing, and keep their shape well enough to wander into a brewery afterward. Black Friday is a great time to upgrade your travel wardrobe without blowing your budget.

Some of our favorite brands participate in Black Friday sales:

Here are some of our favorite items to grab on sale:

    • Ridge Merino Men’s Journey T-Shirt: This versatile tee provides sun protection, is quick-drying, and looks amazing. It’s Jon’s go-to t-shirt.

    • Ridge Merino Lightweight Wool Hoodie: This is my absolute favorite travel hoodie, as it provides enough warmth during cool days but is also lightweight enough to protect against the sun on hot days. It’s the perfect road trip layer.

    • Convertible Pants: These are my favorite pants to wear on hikes because I can temperature-control as I go! (Mine are out of stock, but these are similar.)

    • Coalatree Trailhead Shorts: These shorts are amazing for the simple reason that they repel stains. Perfect for when you spill a little Chick-fil-A sauce or drip coffee mid-drive. (Just me?)

    • Joggers: Jon wears either his KÜHL Suppressor Joggers or Coalatree Evolution Joggers constantly (and gets compliments on the green color everywhere we go). I love the Woolx Lola Joggers because they’re lightweight, soft, and just the right amount of cozy without being heavy.

    • Unbound Merino Tank: This tank is breathable, odor-resistant, and wrinkle-resistant, which means it works just as well for long car rides as it does for trail hikes or dinner stops. I own it in four colors, and it’s the kind of shirt you can wear for a sweaty hike, hang up overnight, and put back on the next day without a second thought. For road trips, that’s gold: less laundry and fewer clothes to pack.

    • KÜHL Kruiser Men’s Shorts: These shorts are one of Jonathan’s warm-weather staples. They’re versatile enough for everything from hiking trails to errands in town. (The Sienna color looks so good!!)

    6. ROVE Dash Cam

The Rove Dash Cam is one of our favorite new finds. It’s like having a built-in documentary crew, and Black Friday / Cyber Monday offers some of the biggest deals of the year!

Here are the best deals to watch for this holiday season:

    • ROVE R2-4K (Front Camera Only): If you’re just starting out and want a simple, front-facing camera, this is a great entry-level option. Regular Price $119.99 → Black Friday Price: $71.99 (40% OFF)

    • ROVE R2-4K PRO (Enhanced Front Cam with Better Wi-Fi): The PRO is another front-facing camera, but has better night vision, a supercapacitor (to hold up better in extreme temps), and always-on Wi-Fi. This one’s great if you're frequently driving through remote areas or places where you want to capture better footage in low-light conditions. Regular Price $129.99 → Black Friday Sale: $84.98 (35% OFF)

    • ROVE R2-4K DUAL (Front + Rear Coverage): This two-camera setup records up front and in the rear to help capture everything. Whether you want to capture every mountain pass or simply want more peace of mind, this model checks almost all the boxes. Regular Price $199.99 → Black Friday Sale: $99.99 (50% OFF)

    • ROVE R3 (Front + Rear Coverage + Cabin): The ROVE R3 is a great option for full-time travelers, van lifers, or those driving cross-country with pets or loved ones. It includes three cameras: front, rear, and interior cabin, ideal if you’re documenting your entire experience. Regular Price $299.99 → Black Friday Sale: $179.99 (40% OFF)

    • ROVE R2-4K DUAL PRO (High-End Option): This model is ideal for road trippers who want the absolute best documentation of every mile, whether for vlogging, van life, or detailed insurance protection. Regular Price $349.99 → Black Friday Sale: $209.99 (40% OFF)

    7. The Garmin Messenger

If you’ve ever been on a remote road trip or backcountry trek, then you know: cell service can disappear fast. That’s where the Garmin INREACH Messenger is helpful.

It uses satellite technology to let you send texts even in no-service areas. (This is huge!) It also tracks your location and lets loved ones follow your route in real time.

I can’t tell you how often I wished we had this handy device while roadtripping through Alaska (or for that time we got lost in Arches National Park twenty minutes before sundown).

Instead, we found ourselves sending update messages like: “No cell service for the next 48 hours. Will check in when we can.”

Why you’ll love it: This brings peace of mind. Your family won’t panic when you’re off the grid, and you’ll always have a way to reach out for help if you need it.

On Black Friday, you can find big sales on Garmin’s website, REI, or Amazon.

    8. RTL Travel Guides: 30% Off

Is Yellowstone on your bucket list for 2026? Ready to trade traffic jams for bison jams?

How about heading to Alaska to chase glaciers, mountains, and midnight sun—and maybe cross a few elusive national parks off your list while you’re there?

If you’re dreaming big for next year, we’ve done the work for you with our RTL Travel Guides.

    Like… all of it 🙂

The routes, the must-see stops, the best times to go, the places that are totally worth it (and the ones that aren’t), and how to plan your days so you’re not zigzagging across the map. And because we’ve road tripped these routes ourselves, every detail is real, tested, and vetted. Whether it’s how (exactly) to get there or which hike is actually dog-friendly, we’ve been there.

From Alaska to Yellowstone, our guides are your shortcut to seeing more, planning less, and making 2026 your best travel year yet.

👉 Black Friday deal: 30% off all guides with code TRAVELBF. (Sale runs from Thanksgiving through Travel Tuesday.)

    9. Electronics & Optics

Some of the best road trips are packed with “did that just happen?!” moments, like wildlife dashing across the road. Black Friday is one of the best times of the year to upgrade your photo or video setup so you never miss a moment.

Here are some deals to watch for this year:

    • GoPro HERO10 / Insta360 X3: These are great action cameras. You can clip them to your backpack, dash, or helmet for footage of hikes, scenic drives, and rides.

    • Wildlife Spotting Scopes + Binoculars: Black Friday is one of the best times of the year to invest in high-quality binoculars or spotting scopes at better prices. We highly recommend one or the other if you’re headed somewhere for wildlife watching next year!

    • Mirrorless Cameras: If you’ve been waiting to upgrade your travel camera, Cyber Weekend brings some of the steepest discounts of the year for brands like Sony, Canon, and Nikon. The LUMIX G7 4K Digital Camera has been our go-to. (Last year, it was over 30% off during Cyber Week.) It’s a good entry-level camera with amazing video capability. We bought this Lumix lens for wildlife photography. (Heads up: If you shoot a lot, grab a second charger and extra memory cards so you don’t run out of battery or space mid-photo.)

    • Drones: Drones add a whole new perspective, especially for wide-open landscapes. Just remember to pack the charger (we recommend a backup, too) and check local regulations before you fly. The drone we have is out of stock, but there are tons of great options on Amazon. We’ve seen drones up to 65% off in past years!

    10. Gorilla Bow Travel

Planning a long road trip in 2026? Or maybe you’ve got an extended stay coming up? The Gorilla Bow Travel Gym is a compact, resistance-based workout that fits right in your suitcase, so you can stay consistent wherever the road takes you.

We used ours for months of travel during Travel Seasons. It’s lightweight, easy to set up, and surprisingly powerful for its size, perfect for working out in your cabin, campsite, or Airbnb.

You can usually find the Gorilla Bow 25% off during Black Friday sales, making it one of the best road trip-friendly fitness investments you can make for 2026.

    11. Gossamer Gear Mariposa Backpack

This one isn’t just for hardcore backpackers. It’s for anyone who wants a lightweight, comfortable pack that can keep up with every kind of adventure.

We used the Gossamer Gear Mariposa for three weeks in Alaska, and it was perfect. Lightweight enough for long travel days, roomy enough to handle layers, snacks, and camera gear, and comfortable enough that we never once said “are we almost there?” (which is saying something after a 10-mile hike… uphill both ways, of course).

It’s also a favorite among thru-hikers, which tells you a lot about its durability.

If you hate heavy packs that make your shoulders ache halfway through the day, this is the one! Especially if you’re looking for a lightweight pack that can handle a lot of stuff.

And the best part? Black Friday usually brings 30% off sitewide, so it’s the perfect time to upgrade your gear before your next big trip.

    12. YETI Roadie Cooler

The YETI Roadie is the road trip cooler. Compact enough to slide behind your car seat, sturdy enough to double as an extra camp chair or step stool, and efficient enough to keep food and drinks cold for days.

Why you’ll love it: No more soggy sandwiches and no more melted ice halfway through the drive. The Roadie is tough, reliable, and surprisingly portable.

Last year, YETI offered 20% off the Roadie Hard Cooler during their Black Friday sale and we’re crossing our fingers for similar savings this year. If you’ve been eyeing one, this is your chance to grab it before your next adventure.

    13. VPN Subscription

When you’re living that digital nomad life, you’re constantly hopping between public networks at campgrounds, hotels, airports, and even trailhead parking lots with a signal just strong enough to check your map. While that freedom is part of the adventure, it can also make your connection vulnerable.

NordVPN creates an encrypted tunnel between your device and the internet, hiding your IP address and keeping your personal data private. It’s fast, reliable, and works anywhere, from big cities to the edge of Yellowstone National Park.

    It’s great for:

    • Protecting data when using public Wi-Fi on the road

    • Accessing region-locked apps and shows when traveling

    • Safely logging into work tools and cloud files from anywhere

    • Streaming, uploading, and sharing without worrying about slow or unsecured networks

👉 NordVPN has offered 77% off + 3 months extra during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. Worth it for peace of mind alone.

    14. Gathre Mat

The Gathre Mat is another one of those “why didn’t we get this sooner?” items. It folds small, wipes clean, and works for everything: beach picnics, park concerts, camping, tailgates, and everything in between.

Why you’ll love it: It’s lightweight, packable, and durable. You can throw it down anywhere and instantly have a comfy spot to sit.

👉 Cyber Weekend: $50 OFF $250. $100 OFF $400. $150 OFF $500. We love the Maxi Gathre Mat, which folds to a packable size yet offers room for everyone!

    15. Huhu Travel Backpack

This is one of my favorite travel bags, and Black Friday is a great time to grab it (usually 25% off, and sometimes up to 40% sitewide). It may have been designed for on-the-go parents, but it’s become my go-to for everything: plane travel, road trips, weekend getaways, and even day trips.

Its genius lies in the organization. Sleek enough to pass for a regular backpack, smart enough to keep everything in its place, and comfortable enough to carry anywhere, from the backseat of a long drive to under an airplane seat. We don’t have kids and Huhu’s everyday diaper backpack is still one of my favorite travel backpacks thanks to its perfect size, smart pockets, and addictively easy magnetic closures.

Shop on Huhu | Shop on Amazon

    16. AllTrails

AllTrails is our favorite hiking app and the easiest way to find walking and hiking trails along your route. In past Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, AllTrails Plus has been available at 50% off. A plus account is worth it if you’re headed to national or state parks where cell service may be sparse. A pro membership allows you to download trail maps for offline use, and it’s saved us more than once on a trail.

    Road Trip Packing List

If you’re already in shopping mode, don’t miss our Complete Road Trip Packing List. It’s full of tried-and-true travel gear we actually use, and a ton of it usually goes on sale during Black Friday weekend. Perfect excuse to stock up before next year’s adventures.
