Christmas in Branson, MO: 3-Day Itinerary & 10 Festive Things to Do
When it comes to Christmas getaways, a few cities always seem to top the national lists: New York City with its Rockefeller Center tree, Leavenworth’s Bavarian Christmas Market, and even North Pole, Alaska, with its year-round holiday cheer. But tucked in the Ozark Mountains, about a seven-hour drive from Dallas, there’s another town that shows up on those same “Best Christmas Towns in America” roundups again and again.
Branson, Missouri.
We’d heard the claims for years—millions of lights, over-the-top shows, festive events on every corner—so on our way to spend the holidays with family, we decided to stop for a few days and see it for ourselves. 3-Day Christmas Itinerary in Branson, Missouri
This itinerary mixes Branson classics with our personal favorite things to do in the area. You can follow it exactly or use it as a starting point to build your own holiday getaway.
Day 1: Silver Dollar City + Downtown Branson + Lights of Joy
Start your trip with the crown jewel of Christmas in Branson: Silver Dollar City. This theme park transforms into a full winter wonderland every November with more than 6.5 million lights, a five-story animated Christmas tree, holiday musicals, carolers, seasonal food, and Rudolph’s Holly Jolly Christmas Light Parade.
You don’t have to be a ride person to love it. (We’re not!) Simply walking in the park feels like stepping inside a Christmas village.
Grab a hot cocoa or apple cider, watch a show, browse handmade gifts, and wander through Christmas in Midtown (a 1.5-million-light display that is overwhelming in the best way).
Silver Dollar City also puts on incredible holiday shows. We LOVED watching A Dickens’ Christmas Carol during our visit. The production quality was amazing, and it’s one of the reasons we recommend setting aside several hours for Silver Dollar City.
The theme park also offers tours of Marvel Cave, a massive underground cavern beneath the park. We did the tour during our visit and enjoyed seeing the size of the cathedral room and learning the history behind it.
After the park, head into Historic Downtown Branson. This area still has old-time charm with brick streets, locally owned shops, and plenty of holiday décor. Stop inside Dick’s 5 & 10, an iconic general store packed with nostalgic holiday finds and fun gifts.
When the sun sets, drive through Branson’s Lights of Joy, a mile-long light display full of bright tunnels, animated scenes, and holiday music. It’s simple, festive, and a great way to end your first night in town.
Day 2: Big Cedar Lodge + Christmas Shows
Just 20 minutes south of Branson sits Big Cedar Lodge, one of the most magical places in the Ozarks, especially at Christmas.
We first visited Big Cedar during Halloween weekend for their golf-cart cave and waterfall tour + dinner at Osage Restaurant. Coming back to see it decked out for Christmas is a no-brainer! The entire property transforms into a holiday escape with:
4+ million lights throughout the resort
A drive-through or tram “Home for the Holidays” light tour
Ice skating and holiday tubing at the Winter Wonderland area
Tree lighting ceremonies on select nights
Baking with Mrs. Claus for kids
Holiday workshops, like gingerbread charcuterie chalets and seasonal craft sessions
Nature at Night at Top of the Rock, a 2.5-mile light-filled journey through caves and trails
Cozy restaurants with holiday menus, including Osage (a favorite from our own visit)
Even if you don’t stay overnight, Big Cedar is worth the short drive for the lights alone.
End your day with a live show. Branson is famous for its live entertainment, and Christmas is the best time to experience it. A few of the most-loved shows include:
Dolly Parton’s Stampede Christmas Show
Sight & Sound’s “Miracle of Christmas”
The Haygoods Christmas Show
Hughes Brothers Christmas
Day 3: Branson Landing + Ferris Wheel + Adoration Parade
Start your third day at Branson Landing, a waterfront shopping and dining district that’s beautifully decorated for the holidays. The giant Christmas tree, holiday soundtrack, and fountains choreographed to Christmas music make it feel extra festive. You can shop for gifts, stop for coffee, or enjoy a late breakfast overlooking Lake Taneycomo.
Next, head over to the Branson Ferris Wheel, brought in from Chicago’s Navy Pier. The views are great during the day, but they’re magical once the sun sets and the city’s Christmas lights glow.
Wrap up your holiday trip with dinner at Level 2 Steakhouse or the ultra-cozy Billy Bob’s Dairyland, then (if your trip dates line up) head to the Adoration Parade, a Branson tradition since 1949 that features floats, music, and a giant nativity scene overlooking the city.
10 Festive Things to Do in Branson, MO, for Christmas
1. Silver Dollar City’s Old Time Christmas
If there’s one non-negotiable Christmas activity in Branson, it’s this. Silver Dollar City goes all-out with more than six million lights, nightly parades, Broadway-style holiday productions, and an immersive walk-through called Christmas in Midtown. You can spend hours wandering the park, sipping cocoa, watching musicals, shopping, or simply admiring the displays. It feels like a true Christmas village—bright, warm, joyful, and larger than life.
One of our favorite parts of our visit to Silver Dollar City was catching A Dickens’ Christmas Carol. We didn’t expect such an impressive production inside a theme park, but we absolutely loved it. If you enjoy live shows, this one is worth planning around.
Another thing many visitors don’t realize is that Silver Dollar City offers guided tours of Marvel Cave, a stunning natural cavern located right underneath the park. We did the tour, and it turned out to be one of the most fascinating parts of our day.
2. Branson Landing Winter Wonderland
Branson Landing sits along the water. The large Christmas tree adds a cheerful focal point, and the fountain show—synchronized to holiday music—is worth watching more than once! There are plenty of great restaurants nearby, so you can pair your visit here with a good meal or a waterfront drink. The shops also make this a great place for last-minute gifts. Whether you're strolling, shopping, or just taking in the ambiance, it’s an easy, enjoyable stop.
3. The Lights of Joy Drive-Through Display
Lights of Joy is exactly what it sounds like: joyful, easy, and fun for all ages. The mile-long light route includes tunnels, magical villages, animated displays, and music you can tune into from your car. You don’t need reservations, so you can just drive up when you’re ready. It’s a great “end-of-day” activity when you’re tired from walking or want something relaxing.
4. Big Cedar Lodge’s Home for the Holidays
Big Cedar Lodge might technically be outside Branson, but it deserves a spot on this list because it’s truly one of the most magical Christmas experiences in the region. The property features millions of lights, gingerbread workshops, ice skating, tram rides, Santa visits, and nature-focused nighttime light tours.
We loved experiencing it during the fall and would go back at Christmas in a heartbeat, especially for the Winter Wonderland ice rink and the holiday lights at Top of the Rock. You can visit even if you're not staying overnight, though you’ll have to purchase a day pass when you arrive and certain activities may require reservations. If you want a Hallmark moment in the woods, this is it.
5. Dolly Parton’s Stampede Christmas Show
This is a fun, high-energy Christmas show with horses, music, stunts, comedy, and storytelling… all while you eat a full dinner. The Christmas version even includes a guest appearance from Santa! It’s perfect for families or groups, and the arena is decorated beautifully.
6. Sight & Sound’s Miracle of Christmas
This show is a Branson staple for many families, especially during the holiday season. The production quality is Broadway-level, with massive sets, special effects, and live animals. Even if you don’t normally attend live shows, this one tends to surprise people with how good it is.
7. Branson Ferris Wheel
The Branson Ferris Wheel is one of the best places to take in Branson’s holiday lights. Plus, for 2025, the Ferris Wheel was chosen as the site of the Branson Community Christmas Tree, a stunning installation featuring 5,926 LEDs in warm white, strobe, and synchronized multi-color patterns. Whether you ride the Wheel, explore The Track Family Fun Parks next door, or simply stop by to admire the tree, this spot is a must-see during the holidays.
8. Branson Scenic Railway’s Polar Express
If you're traveling with kids or love nostalgic holiday experiences, the Polar Express is another festive thing to do in Branson during the holidays. The train ride includes cookies, cocoa, Christmas music, storytelling, and a special visit from Santa. It’s one of the most popular Christmas activities in Branson, so book early.
9. Christmas at the Titanic Museum
The Titanic Museum decks its halls with Victorian-style decorations that create a historically inspired Christmas atmosphere. You can learn about how passengers celebrated the holidays during the era, explore decorated exhibits, and even see the grand staircase transformed for Christmas.
10. Adoration Parade & Lighting Ceremony
This is one of Branson’s longest-running holiday traditions, dating back to 1949. The parade celebrates the meaning of Christmas with floats, music, marching bands, and community groups. The lighting ceremony includes a giant nativity scene on the bluff overlooking Branson Landing. It’s free, family-friendly, and loved by locals, which gives it a special small-town feel. If your trip lines up with the parade, it’s worth going early to grab a good spot.
